CHARLESTON 60S ARIAL
This photo shows a tremendous amount of detail. This is Charleston right before the big changes that were about to take place. Let's take a closer look and I'll help you to pick out some of the buildings here that are are now gone. It will help you to blow up the photo by clicking on the link below so that you can see these places that I'll point out. In the center at the top is the B&O Railroad. Greens Feed & Seed sits there now. As you move across to the right you see the Elk Hotel, The NYC Rail Depot, Brittons chicken slaughterhouse, Gene Byrd Ford, Pepsi bottlers, Roger Dean Chevrolet to name a few. Coming back from right to left you see S&H Green Stamps, Middleburg Auditorium, Ferguson Hotel, Old Library, YMCA (still on Capitol St) Fruth School, St Francis Hospital etc. Now starting lower left to right you see, City Hall, Woodrums, Kanawha Hotel, The Arcade, Holley Hotel, Ruffner Hotel. These are just a few of the highlights. If you look closer, I'm sure you'll find something interesting you remember. |
