Odd Photos From The Boulevard And Clendenin Streets
Not the greatest picture in the world, but interesting none the less. This photo was taken in the 50s from a roof on Virginia Street looking towards the Elk River. Here you can see the old Barracks Auto, and what appears to be the old Sears building. There is no Holiday Inn behind Barracks yet, and oddly enough, there is none today either. The reason for this photo is that the photographer was taking pictures of a parade on the Boulevard. See the marching band on the Elk River Bridge? Let's look at another angle....
This photo was taken from the roof of the old Appalachian Power building. The photographer is taking a photo of the Charleston High Marching Band. I like this photo because it reminds me of things long forgotten... like the Red Head gas station on the Boulevard.
