Maytag Gasoline Engines Many folks don't know that the Maytag Washing Machine Company made washing machines powered by gasoline engines from 1915 to 1952. These were used mostly in areas without electricity. The single cylinder engines were built from 1915 to 1937, at which time the twins were introduced up until 1952.
20 years ago I saw my first rebuilt and mounted Maytag engine. I thought "I have GOT to get a couple of those. Well, you know how time passes and you get busy with life. Finally, I just recently purchased a Maytag Twin AND a Single!
Here's my Maytag Washer,
Here you see the before and after photos of my Model 92...
And here are my Twin & Single together. The Twin is a 1948 model, while the Single is 1930.
The Single, didn't have a manifold for the muffler, so I welded one together :
BELOW IS A SHORT VIDEO OF BOTH ENGINES RUNNING
Below is my latest: It's a Model 72 that's been souped-up with custom exhaust and hanger
The hanger and pipes are stainless steel, while the skid is oak. Below is the video:
Here's
an engine that I picked up in Columbus recently. I really like
this one because
That ball muffler is cast iron, and was made to go into a bucket of water to help muffle more.
Here's a couple more that I picked-up in Ohio with some nice carts instead of skids.

This is a rare "Upright" engine from 1917 that I just aquired. Below is the video:
My current collection.
I've seen lots of things built from these little Maytags:
Some people even make Hot Rod Maytags like mine
I'll add more as this madness progresses.... wvskyguyATaol.com |
